As children, laughter was never far-off. That is why it is so important to stay in touch with the child within each of us. We are still that child which gives us our sense of fun. We can’t control everything in life, however laughter gives us a direct connection with the heart and the ability to roll with the changes.
Did you know you can laugh your self healthy, well and wise? There’s a proverb that says, “a happy heart is like a good medicine and a cheerful mind works healing but a broken spirit dries up the bones”.
Doctors who are on the cutting edge of the latest health and science technology have confirmed and documented that laughter really is the best medicine. Laughter triggers the release of the antibody immunoglobulin, which boosts the immune system. Medical and psychological research shows that fun keeps you fit.
A good laugh acts as a sort of internal aerobics; working the muscles of the heart and the upper body, stimulating the nerves and improving the way the body uses oxygen.
Recently I came across an article on “mirth medicine” which was pioneered by a man who suffered from a crippling disease. He was given a 1 in 500 chance for recovery. To cheer himself up, he began watching the Marx brother’s films and discovered that the pleasure of a single film gave him at least two hours of pain free sleep. Inspired, he checked himself out of the hospital and into a hotel room – where he laughed himself back to health. In west Virginia a “dr. clown” Dr. Patch Adams, created a silly Hospital named “gesundheit institute”, a non profit foundation, to make real the building of a dream. Helping patients recover by prescribing laughter: inspiring creativity, funny films, games, and toys. And In 1991 a laughter clinic was established in the Birmingham public hospital in the united kingdom.

You need some Sheer Fun and special indulgences – this may seem like luxuries but they can also be lifesavers. I believe that taking time for some refreshing and to do something rejuvenating is a life extender. Indulgence is as much about taking time as it is about cost. Taking time for yourself extends the quality, and potentially the length of your life. So seize the day, the hour, the opportunity and the moment. We spend so much time planning for tomorrow, often postponing happiness, perhaps out of some misplaced guilt, or a sense of feeling undeserving of a special treat. Life is short if we don’t take care of ourselves now. Tomorrow may never come.
Weather you are pursuing a career, running a household or just carrying a heavy load of responsibility your usually at the bottom of the priority list. Sheer fun and indulgence is about putting yourself first. What you discover while diving into the process is that it can bring the joy back into your life. Suddenly after taking a moment for yourself, work doesn’t seem so difficult. Problems or at least their importance fades. It’s all about rebalancing your life. You will be a better person for all those who need you…
Think of indulgences as the things that are too frivolous to fit into your “important day”. The point of indulgences are that they contrast with our daily life and so enhance it’s quality. It doesn’t have to be an expensive luxury; it can be something very small and accessible. What ever makes you feel special is the key. I always say follow the joy! So choose the indulgences that “ring a bell” with you.
Remember to laugh and let your heart sing!
